L. HANSRAJ EDUCATIONAL PROPAGANDA 187 years he served as Honorary Headmaster, and thenfor twenty-four years consecutively served asHonorary Principal. This sacrifice made it possible for the promotersto open the first department of the College, i.e., theschool, in 1886. Lala Hansraj has ever since beenthe guiding star and mainstay of this Institution. In the interests of the College he has not spared him-self in any way. His personality is unique in thehistory of the modern Punjab, the only other of whomwe could speak in the same breath being Lala MunshiRam, the founder of the Gurukula at Kangri. It isimpossible to think of the Arya Samaj without thesetwo names next to that of the great founder,Dayananda himself. It is equally impossible tothink of the Dayananda Anglo-Vedic College withoutLala Hansraj. There are other names worthy ofremembrance as of those who have by their devotionand service contributed to the success of the College, one of them being the late Rai Bahadur Lala LaiChan
