| Description |
English: The Habitat store in the King's Road was originally the Gaumont Palace, a huge cinema first opened on the 8th December 1934. It was built on the site of the studios and laboratory of the film pioneer William Friese-Greene.
The cinema was designed by architects William Edward Trent and Ernest F.Tulley. William Edward Trent commissioned his younger brother, the sculptor Newbury Abbot Trent, to create three bas-reliefs on the building's facade. These are still there. One is a relief portrait of Friese-Greene and on either side are relief figures of Comedy and Tragedy. |
