English: Arms of Sir William Chamberlaine / Chamberlayne (d.1462), KG.
  • HOPE, W. H. St. John, The Stall Plates of the Knights of the Order of the Garter 1348 – 1485: A Series of Ninety Full-Sized Coloured Facsimiles with Descriptive Notes and Historical Introductions, Westminster: Archibald Constable and Company LTD, 1901. Plate LXV - Sir William Chamberlain, K.G. 1461-1463. Sir William Chamberlayne's stall plate remains intact within the twenty-third stall, on the Sovereign's side of St George's Chapel, Windsor.

Arms: Quarterly of 4:

  • 1&4: Gules, a chevron between three escallops or (Chamberlain) with a label of three points argent for difference (on 1st quarter only);
  • 2&3: Argent, a saltire engrailed azure (Unknown familial connection) (for Tolthorpe ? (per HOPE, W. H. St. John)) (for Legat ? stated as "Legat" by Francis Blomefield (An Essay Towards a Topographical History of the County of Norfolk, Volume 1, p.223[1] - who nevertheless on p.224 states them as "Tiptoft", clearly confused as Tiptoft has a saltire engrailed gules, not azure) these arms are borne by Teringham of Huntingdonshire; and Legat of Pond Hall, Hadleigh, Suffolk; also by Abell of Kent (Papwoth, John Woody, Alphabetical Dictionary of Coats of Arms Belonging to Families in Great Britain and Ireland, Vol.II, London, 1874, p.1056)).
